Do Good Friday
When we shut down in March, we weren’t sure what we were going to do - with our time, our lives, and all of the cookie dough we had already made (thousands of dough balls stored in three fully stocked industrial freezers). After a few dozen days in quarantine and countless hours watching the news, we saw that there were new heroes emerging before our eyes on a daily basis: nurses, doctors, grocery workers, teachers, postal workers and more. Everyday people putting themselves on the front lines to selflessly serve our communities. Suddenly, we knew what we needed to do.
For the next couple of months, we baked everything we had and ultimately delivered more than 8,000 cookies to frontline workers around Los Angeles. The only reason we stopped was because there were only 4 of us Canters doing the baking and…we ran out of dough!
During this time, pictures were posted on social media of the happy recipients enjoying the cookies – their smiling, albeit exhausted, eyes beaming with thanks. People started contacting us, wanting to know how they could help and participate. Well, now that we’re back (!!!) and have the ability (and the staff!!!) to make cookie-giving a regular thing, we’ve got a new plan to give...and it includes you:
Rather than our weekly "Feel Good Fridays", where you'd come into our shop and say a special phrase to get a free cookie, we're starting “Do Good Friday” — a chance for us all to come together to give cookies to honor, acknowledge, and thank all the frontline workers who deserve it most. On the first Friday of the month we’ll announce the recipient (it could be a hospital, fire station, homeless shelter, or social justice organization); all month long you’ll be able to buy a cookie (or a few) here on our website or in our shop that we’ll bake and deliver on the last Friday of the month. We’re pledging to give 10 dozen individually wrapped cookies and if you’d like to join us, we would love that (we’ll even put your name on the card we send with the cookies).
Are you ready to make someone feel COOKIE GOOD? Let’s Do Good...together!
With so much lockdown uncertainty right now, we're going to take a DGF break for December and will plan to pick it up again in the new year.
(any Do Good Friday cookie donations made this month will roll over to January)
